Yellowstone - just arrived

After repairing the FW slide in Great Falls, we spent a couple of nights in central Montana just recouping. We came into Yellowstone from the west thru West Yellowstone, Mt., a good approach since it was not mountainous but followed the Madison River into Yellowstone NP. We set up camp at Grant Village Campground, glad we had made reservations in January because every site was full!

Early the next day we took a Ranger tour of some of the local geothermal sites on the shore (and in the water) of Lake Yellowstone - a natural, two million acre lake at 7800' elevation that stays frozen until May. When water levels drop in the late summer (snowmelt over) these hot geysers will be exposed and they say you can catch your trout in the lake and then just hang it over the hole to cook it!
